Two prominent SA businessmen
appointed to Phoenix Society Board

Leading national disability organisation, Phoenix Society, today announced the appointment of two prominent South Australian businessmen to its Board.

They are Mr Donald McGurk and Mr Ian Stone.

Mr McGurk is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Codan Limited, a world-leading, Adelaide-based company that designs, manufactures and exports high frequency (HF) radio, satellite and metal detection equipment.

Mr McGurk has a Masters in Business Administration, and has extensive experience in change management applied to manufacturing operations.

Mr Stone is the Managing Director of the Royal Automobile Association of South Australia (RAA), the State’s peak motoring body representing the interests of nearly 600,000 motorists

A qualified chartered accountant, Mr Stone is also a Director of other Boards including the Australian Automobile Association, Australian Motoring Services, RAA Insurance Ltd, Third Party Premiums Committee, and the Road Safety Governance Committee (previously the Road Safety Advisory Council).

“We are delighted to have two new Board members of such calibre. Each is an outstanding South Australian leader in their chosen field,” Phoenix Society Chairman, Dr Graeme Bethune, said today.

“Both Donald and Ian bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, and will be invaluable assets to the continued growth of the Society - and importantly to the further development of employment opportunities for people with a disability at Phoenix,” he said.

Mr McGurk said: “I am delighted to join the Phoenix Board and look forward to assisting this wonderful organisation achieve its goals in developing gainful employment opportunities for people with disabilities.”

Mr Stone said: “The Phoenix Society is renowned for its vital role in supporting people with disabilities in a range of areas, and I am honoured to be invited to join the Board and assist it with its important charter.”

Phoenix Society was formed in 1958 and is one of the most innovative and dynamic employers of people with disabilities in Australia. It operates five successful commercial businesses, in both metropolitan and country South Australia, that provide outstanding opportunities for the development of its 600 employees.
